What to expect at your newborn baby photoshoot?

If you are reading this it must mean you are getting ready to come and have your newborn session with me at Kate Davey Photography. In this blog I will let you know what to expect at your newborn photoshoot. My aim is for you to have a relaxed and enjoyable experience, watching me gently pose your beautiful baby. I understand that you will be feeling tired and maybe even worried about how your baby will ‘perform’ at the photoshoot but I have years of experience of handling newborn babies and have never yet had to cancel a session due to an unsettled baby! Most of the time parents sit back on the sofa and drink lots of coffee. You can expect to have a special experience that you will remember forever, after all it’s the first professional photos your baby will have!

How long does a newborn baby photoshoot take?

Newborn photoshoots usually take between 2-3 hours. This may seem like a long time but I takes time to pose newborn babies and get them settled. It gives us plenty of time to include family pictures too. Sometimes if a baby sleeps the whole way though we could be done quicker and sometimes they can be really unsettled and may take a little longer. So please bring food with you to eat as you may start to get hungry. During this time you won’t be expected to do much apart from feeding and nappy changes, I will do all the settling. I only book one photoshoot for the day so we don’t need to rush.

What should I bring with me to the photoshoot?

In the studio I have everything that we need for baby. You can choose from lots of beautiful bowls and baskets to pose baby in. There are many adorable head bands, hats and wraps in many different colours. We will use a variety of props to make sure that you have a varied gallery. I chose props based on the size of the baby and I always make sure they are comfortable and safe at all times.

  • Enough milk in bottles if bottle feeding
  • Dummy if they have one (this helps settling)
  • Nappies & Wipes
  • Any special items you want in the pictures
  • Plain clothes if having family pictures

What facilities do you have?

I have a baby changing mat for all the wet and dirty nappies there is also a customer toilet that you are welcome to use.You will also be offered a hot drink when you arrive and I have some lovely posh coffee!! If you need hot water for the baby bottles just ask.

Where do I need to come for the baby photoshoot?

I have a lovely newborn studio in my back garden. So when you arrive at my house please ring the door bell and we will walk through the hall way into the garden. It is easier if you could just bring the car seat as there is limited space for a pram in the studio. There is a mini car park half way down the street on the left hand side or you can park opposite my house on the street. There is no permit parking on the opposite side.

Address: 102 Bartlett Street, Caerphilly, CF83 1JU

What happens after the photoshoot?

After the photoshoot we will arrange a time you can both come back and view your pictures. This is usually at least 7 days after the shoot. At the viewing session you will be shown all your images on the big screen. You can then decide which package you want and also have a look at any wall art you may want to create with your pictures. There is no pressure as I only want you to buy what you LOVE! During this session full payment of the  package is taken via bank transfer or PayPal.

I really look forward to meeting you and your new baby soon. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me via text, email or on social media. Hopefully you feel more confident about what to expect at your newborn photoshoot.
